Section 8 Housing Choice Vouchers

The Section 8 Housing Choice Vouchers programs extends rental subsidies to very-low-income households and seniors who spend more than 30% of their income on rent. The amount of subsidy is equal to the difference between the excess of 30% of monthly income and actual rent. The program is administered by the Orange County Housing Authority (OCHA).

OCHA Special Needs Groups Rental Assistance Programs

In addition to Section 8 Housing Choice Vouchers program, the Orange County Housing Authority administers Special Housing Programs that provide rental assistance to special needs groups, including families whose children are at risk of being placed in out-of-home care, disabled person, homeless, and seniors.

These programs include:

  • Family Unification: This program provides Section 8 assistance to families whose children are at risk of being placed in out-of-home care or delayed in returning from care because of the families’ inadequate housing.
  • Aftercare for Disabled: This program provides Section 8 assistance specifically for disabled applicants.
  • Shelter Plus Care: This program provides Section 8 assistance to homeless persons with disabilities.
  • HOPE IV-Elderly Independence: This program provides Section 8 assistance to frail seniors.
  • Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing (VASH): This program provides Section 8 assistance to veterans.
