The City of Aliso Viejo hosts a Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Academy on an annual basis. This course teaches participants basic emergency and disaster preparedness skills to enable them to take care of themselves, their families, neighbors, and coworkers in the event of an emergency or in the hours and days following a community-wide disaster. The CERT Academy addresses the following topics:
Basic Medical Aid- Disaster Preparedness
- Disaster Psychology
- Fire Safety and Suppression
- Light Search and Rescue
- Local Hazards
- Terrorism
- Triage
These weekly courses are instructed by professionals from the Orange County Sheriff’s Department, Orange County Fire Authority, local Emergency Managers, and other Emergency Medical Services (EMS) professionals. The Academy is free to all adult residents of Aliso Viejo as well as interested teens who are accompanied by a parent/guardian who can attend all courses.
